Let Go: The Art of Surrender

We are all human. We all want control. When life throws its curve balls at us daily, we cannot hide the fact that we want to grab every single one and put it right where it’s supposed to go. It is only natural to want a sense of control over everything that seems to be out of whack. It is not a secret our heavenly Father knows this better than we even know it ourselves.

Here’s the thing that many of us forget on a daily basis, none of it is ours to carry alone. We do not need to have that craving for control, we can give it to Jesus completely and allow Him to take it from us by surrendering it ALL to Him. We only add to the overwhelming feelings and stress by trying to control whatever comes our way, we only kill ourselves and eat at our insides because it is not ours to begin with.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6

It is truly one of the hardest things to say I surrender to you Jesus and I relinquish control of my own life. We basically have to die to ourselves, and let the Holy Spirit live inside of us and speak the absolute truth over our every move, every decision and every step forevermore.

The hardest part for me and I am sure that it’s the same way for many is finding what this looks like in practical ways in your own life, so here are some examples:

1. We first seek and ask(pray) that He reveals what areas we need to let go of that control. When we talk to our Father, He listens, he hears us, and He responds in his own timing.

2. Next, we strip off every weight such as any sin, false sense of control, need for approval from others, shame and guilt, belief that we have to do everything or anything to come before our King(insert your own weight too heavy to carry here).

3. Surrender it all to Him, lay it at His feet, even when we feel like we can’t, even when we feel defeated. He carries it for us, we just have to speak the truth. Trust that He can and ask Him to fill you with that Trust.

4. Lastly, meditate on and memorize scriptures.

You are not alone, we are here for you and God is just waiting with open arms.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:11-13

Lori, this was exactly what I needed to hear about control! I want to surrender, but it’s not easy! Please pray that I would allow the Holy Spirit to take over my inadequacies!
    Continue writing! You got this!
