Sometimes, when things don’t go according to plan, we lose faith, not only in ourselves, but also in any potential outcome in our lives. Failure will do that to you. When we experience life’s monumental failures, it’s easy to lose hope, and even faith.
But what’s the difference?
Faith, at its core, is deep-rooted in the expectation of good things to come. It goes beyond hope. While much of hope lives in the mind, faith is steeped in the heart and the spirit. It can’t be explained away by reason or logic, or be understood through a single dimension.
God has given each of us our own free will. This means, that we have the power of choice. We have the ability to freely chose what or who to believe in. Some say truth is relative. However, the ultimate truth still stands now & forevermore: for God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. – John 3:16
Growing up, I had my own doubts and questions regarding Christianity. See, I grew up in a Christian household. I felt like I had to follow what my family followed, in order to continue in their footsteps. At first, I didn’t feel like it was my own personal choice to follow Jesus. I did not want to be forced into a religion, a set of rules or be under the control of someone else. I wanted to be able to believe for myself, know the truth for myself and know why I would choose to put my faith and trust in God and who He is.
I left home for college and wanted to do some research on my own and had some time alone away from church life and family. God got me to a place where I had nothing left but to lean on Him. I realized that life was nothing without Gods love. I learned that life was meaningless without knowing Jesus.
Jesus saved me. He redeemed me. He had a plan for my life, even though I felt like my future seemed bleak at the time. I did not realize it then, but once I decided to put my faith in Jesus, all the puzzle pieces started coming together.
Here are some of the reasons I believe in God:
- God is Trustworthy
Believing in God means we trust Him. Not only do we trust, but we also obey and surrender to Him. His word breathes life into the souls of believers. When I choose to believe in Him and His word, He never fails me. Leaning on His truth helps get me through lot of life’s tough challenges.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”Proverbs 3:5-6
2. God Gives the Desires of Our Hearts
We’re human, so it’s our natural desire to want to succeed in life, have tons money, be loved, feel appreciated, and this list can go on and on. As a single believer, I desire to be married and have a family. I also desire to live out the purpose that God has planned for my life. Whatever the desire may be, if we present it to the Lord and it is part of His plans for our lives, he will come through.
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.”Psalm 37:4-5
3. God Gives Me Peace
No matter what we go through or what life throws our way, God promises us that He will never abandon us. When we put our trust in God, He promises to fill us with peace that surpasses all understanding. Knowing that I can run to our Heavenly Father brings me comfort, hope and assurance that all thing will work together for my good.
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”Phillipians 4:7
4. God Calls Us His Sons and Daughters
We have a clean slate when we choose to believe in God. We are not judged by what we have done in the past, he will continue to shower us with his grace, mercy and unconditional love with no strings attached. We are chosen by God, to be a part of His family and to have others around us as believers to give us support, encouragement and love as well. He sees as blameless and he gives us a new identity in Jesus because He loves us so much.
“For he chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ…”Ephesians 1:4-5
5. God is the Same Yesterday, Today and Forever
God is consistent and never changes whatsoever. He will always be constant. Even when everything changes in our lives, people that we love are taken away too soon, we lose our job or we find ourselves in a situation we can’t seem to get out of. Life changes on a daily basis, our bodies change, our mental health may change. We always want to find something that’s constant or someone who we can rely on that will not change. God is love, he brings joy, he provides strength, he gives water to the thirsty and food to the hungry and his grace and mercies are new every morning.
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”Isaiah 43: 1-2
Hopefully, these reasons can encourage you also, to put your trust in God and give Him your heart. Believing in God does not have to be what you have thought it to be. It is not a set of rules and regulations to control our every move, nor is it based on judgmental beliefs. He is a redeemer, He is our friend, He is our father, and He is all loving and all powerful. He forgives us of all our sins and wipes away all shame and guilt so that we may live with Him for eternity, not even death can separate us from his love, mercy, and grace.
